Customs Workshop Held in Karachi
 

 

Customs Workshop Held on Karachi 21st January 2012
 
PIFFA organized a day long Customs Workshop at Auditorium of Custom’ DGTR-Karachi on 21st January’2012
 
Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association in collaboration with Customs’ Directorate of Training & Research organized a day long Workshop which was enthusiastically attended by over 200 participants from logistics & freight forwarding companies and 13 under-training Assistant Collectors Customs. 

Dr. Jawwad Uwais Agha, Director DGTR opened the Workshop and gave an enlightening lecture on this years’ WCO theme “Borders divide and Customs Connect” and “operational aspects of PaCCS and WeBOC” a newly introduced Web based one custom program indigenously prepared and introduced at various terminals. 

Resource persons from Customs engrossed the audience with their thought provoking lectures and presentations on ‘PaCCS & WeBOC”, ‘Introduction & Scheme of Customs Tariff’, and ‘Customs Drug Enforcement’. The question-answer sessions provided an opportunity to the participants to make queries concerning practical problems that arise while using PaCCS & WeBOC and at various stages of consignment clearance. The Facilitators received the critical questions with patience, clarified some and assured to address the genuine grievances. 

In the closing session Chairman PIFFA Mr. Asim Saeed Khan welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Amir Muhammad Khan Marwat, Chief Collector of Customs (South). In his welcome address he described the Association’s aims with particular reference to capacity building of freight forwarding industry. He apprised that vocational training course being conducted at PIFFA facilities in Karachi and Lahore has given industry more than 300 qualified Diploma holders who passed FIATA validated course spread over +265 hours of study and universally recognized 14 modules course on international freight forwarding. 

During the closing ceremony Chief Collector of Customs gave away mementos to Mr. Muhammad Aqil Maniar, the organizer of the workshop; to Mr. Moin Ahmed Malik, President, PIFFA Training Institute, Mr. Khalid Mir, Vice President, PIFFA Training Institute, Mr. Tahir Malik, Chairman ACAAP, Capt. Javed Iqbal, & Mr. Muhammad Rajpar of PSAA. Chairman PIFFA Mr. Asim Saeed Khan presented momentos to Chief Collector of Customs, Director DGTR-Karachi, Collector Customs (Appraisement), Collector Customs (Preventive) and Collector Customs (PaCCS). 

To add festivity to the event, a lucky draw was held wherein workshop participants Mr. Mohammad Fahd, Mr. Mohammad Feroz won Karachi/Dubai return air tickets sponsored by GSA of fly Dubai M/s. PK Logistics SCM Pvt Ltd and Chairman ACAAP, whereas Ms. Tasleem Aamir won Karachi/Lahore return ticket sponsored by M/s. Dynamic Shipping Agencies Pvt Ltd. 

In his concluding address Chief Collector of Customs emphasized the need of close public-private interaction and appreciated the efforts of PIFFA in organizing such events. He described the role of Customs as facilitator of trade activities and collection revenues for the Government. To catch up with the international e-standards he added all efforts are being made to introduce automation for smooth clearance of cargo at ports
